Samsung Highlight Review

The Samsung Highlight SGH T749 is the latest phone launched by Samsung for T mobile’s 3G network. The phone is available in two colors: fire and ice. While fire is a bright orange in color, ice is a cool turquoise blue. The phone is a bit sturdier than its former cousins and has rounded edges to provide a better grip. The dimensions of the phone are not too bulky and nor is the weight too much, providing the right combination for easy handling.

The touch screen is just about 3 inches which is quite small if we compare it to that of other phones in its category. However, the small size is compensated by the brilliant resolution, sharp images and vibrant colors. The menu is well designed and organized in a manner that is easy to operate and understand. In addition to that the menu is also easy to navigate and not difficult to work with even for first time users. The quality of perception of the touch pad is also quite good. The permanent controls are located at the bottom of the screen and provide shortcuts to very useful applications. There is also a vibrating feedback that lets you know if you press a control key. You can customize the phone in a way that you like by changing the font and adjusting the backlight and brightness. You can also alter the intensity of the vibrating alert to suit your needs.

Messaging becomes a breeze with the two ways that are provided to you by the Samsung Highlight SGH T749. You can either type your messages on the standard alphanumeric keyboard or the virtual keyboard although the latter is the easier option. In addition to that, you can also change over to the QWERTY keyboard if you find that more convenient with the accelerometer. The shortcut to the T9 dictionary and the presence of the major punctuation marks on the primary keyboard are more than welcome features that make message typing a less tedious job. The physical keys are large and are easy to operate as well. The Samsung Highlight SGH T749 has a phonebook that can store up to 2000 contacts with multiple details like postal address, email address, 4 more numbers and notes. In addition to that the SIM card can store up to 250 more contacts, which is quite helpful.

The 3 mega pixel camera takes decent images although it lacks a flash which is a major drawback. The video recorder is also pretty efficient although the number of controls are even less than that in the camera. However, you do have the facility of a ‘smile shot’ where the camera detects and clicks only when the subject is smiling. The music player is also quite good but it has one major hitch. There is no facility of downloading the music that you may want to store in it. However, you may transfer your songs in it through an USB device. The signal strength and call quality have been tested and are reported to be very good if not exceptional. Overall, the phone is not the best you could go for but a great buy if you want a touch phone in a limited budget.
