And in the rare cases when an R&D team actually comes up with something innovative, they usually reserve it for a 2000 buck handset like the Motorola Aura. The LG GD900 Crystal and its see-through keypad, however, prefers walking among the mortals to sitting on mount Olympus and drinking ambrosia.

And luckily the sleek handset is much more than a pretty face. The rich feature set of the GD900 Crystal places it only a short step away from LG's multimedia flagships. However the lack of GPS is easily made up for with cool features like gesture shortcuts and multi-touch input. Sure, these may seem like fancy additions rather than key features, but sometimes it's all about winning the hearts of the users rather than their minds. And the Crystal seems pretty well designed to do that.

LG GD510 Pop review: Mobile pop culture

Introduction

It looks like LG have been playing their own version of will it blend. There's no need to tell you they're not playing for fun - they're rather trying to squeeze some more cash off a couple of hot-selling handsets. So, here's the deal. Get your blender, throw in an LG Arena and a Cookie and set the speed to "budget". And there you have it - an LG GD510 Pop - ready to be served to the happy masses. The "pop" LG are going for is definitely "popular", as opposed to the "popstar stuff" some of you may have hoped for.
You can go ahead and call it the new Cookie, or the low-cost Arena, but the LG Pop is quite obviously keen to have its own purpose and personality. The optional battery cover fitting a solar panel and the all-round eco-friendliness are one way for it to stand on its own two feet as a phone.

Apart from that, the Pop is just another midrange touchscreen. And this is by no means a guilty verdict. The LG Cookie used to be just another touchscreen too. Certainly not now - over 5 million units sold later. The Pop is perhaps setting its hopes high as well. Let's see if the classic unisex design, the feature mix and the affordable price tag can do it for it too.

There's something about the styling of the Pop that might misguide users to expect Arena-like functionality. In fact, the only Arena stuff inside is the S-Class-styled main menu - the rest of the interface is like on the LG Cookie. The important features for the mass user are there but the expected price bracket doesn't really imply high-end specs.
Many people might miss the camera autofocus and 3G support. And yes, some would have been delighted to get Wi-Fi support on the spec sheet. To us, the most important omission - given the potential target audience - is DivX/XviD support. Anyway, the reason for all that is more than clear: specs are sticking to the basics to keep the price tag comfortably low.

We guess, there's no reason to construe the GD510 Pop as an upgrade to the LG KP500 Cookie. The Pop is simply the next LG handset to try and tap on the demand for basic affordable touchscreens. An inevitable response to what Samsung are doing with the Star, the Preston and the Corby. To set it apart from the Cookie, the Pop was given some of the LG Arena styling, an optional solar panel and has taken an altogether greener stance.
We praised the Cookie for its handling and style, and the Pop has quite a lot to live up to. The first impression is promising enough though. The Arena-like looks and absolutely minimalist exterior may receive a warm enough reception.

LG BL40 New Chocolate review: Chef’s best

It was handsets like the original Chocolate that put LG on the map. But simply playing with the big boys was never going to be enough. It takes creativity to outsmart and outdo some formidable rivals. LG never shied away from experimenting and have been repaid more often than not. There’s Black Label and Prada, some great cameraphones and a host of capable touchscreen devices to prove it.
But that was then. The New Chocolate is new and it means it. The “Black Label” simply sticks on the BL40 but this phone seems to hold a higher purpose. It’s not merely the next of the Chocolates – it’s in touch with its times. And it does great justice to a portfolio where Viewty Smart talks to Renoir and Crystal walks with the Arena.
The LG BL40, the New Chocolate, is thin, classy and sexy but the one word that does it justice is unique. You really won’t find another phone like it out there, and only a few others have the same kind of impact.

We first saw the LG Watch Phone last year at CES 2008, but it was behind glass and no one was allowed to really see how it all worked. This year, however, LG plans to break it out of the display case. At the LG press conference a few minutes ago, they demonstrated a real working prototype of the watch phone and it looks to be a real must-have for the spy wannabe in your life. It has a touch-screen user interface (!), three side-mounted buttons, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and even a full-blown music player. It's water resistant, and it'll feature 3G HSDPA, which leads us to think it may come to AT&T some time this year.

UPDATE: We've just got more details about the watch phone. It has tempered glass, a high-quality metal casing, and is around 13.9mm thick. The touch screen itself is 1.43 inches diagonally, and features LG's Flash interface. Features include voice recognition, Text to Speech so it can read out text messages, and stereo Bluetooth. However, the huge disappointment is that the watch phone will be Europe-only (insert sad face here). We think it may still be compatible with local GSM networks, but only time will tell (apologies for the bad pun).

LG Xenon is one of the latest mobiles by LG that is going to be released soon and the world is actually waiting for that moment. It was rumored to be released around the Christmas season last year, but sadly it did not turn out to be true. Let us look into the finer aspects of this ‘new’ smart phone by LG and find out whether the mobile is actually a great set to own or it is just hype. LG Xenon is a slider based mobile which offers you a great display.
It offers a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and can support over 65K colors in it. The dimensions of the mobile are 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm and weighs only about 108 grams with the battery in it. It has a 2.8-inch display with vibration feedback and looking at all these specifications, the design of the mobile is great.

The LG Xenon also comes in with full QWERTY keyboard and offers a range of features in it. The keypads are small in size but they are perfect to type and do not cause any problems there. It includes a great mp3 player which offers great quality sound. It supports expandable memory upto16 GB which is also one of the better points of this mobile. The shared memory of the mobile is 80 MB. It has in built HSDPA which gives a speed of 3.6 Mbps. Along with this, GPS, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth are also compatible with this mobile. The battery life of this mobile is good but does need recharging more often. The talk time of the LG Xenon lasts for 4 hours and the standby time is 264 hours which means an average battery in it. It also includes some additional features like threaded text messaging along with an option of instant messaging; high speed surfing and mobile e-mail, quad-band GSM and others.

Now speaking of the disadvantages of this mobile, the battery life could have had been made better. The touch screen also is under developed as it reflects too much and when given a touch, it is not so accurate. The headset and the data cable needs to be purchased and does not come along with this mobile. Moreover, the lack of dictionary and Wi-Fi in this mobile reduces the overall value of this mobile. Still, with all the features included in the mobile and taking note of each pros and cons of this mobile, we can still brand this mobile as a great smart phone by LG, if not the best. It has room for improvement but still can be very useful to all multimedia set lovers. The phone is built ideally for the next generation and with so many features, this set is likely to go ahead for a longer duration of time and will prove to be a successful model by LG.
